Surrender
Surrender Information
Can I surrender my pet to Fix West Texas?
At this time, we are only accepting dogs and cats under the age of 6 months old. You will be required to continue fostering your pet, as we work to get them adopted via our adoption center at Petsmart Midland.
Why can’t I surrender my older pet? At this time, we are up to our eyeballs in rehoming pets from Midland Animal Service who will otherwise be euthanized. However, check back as there are “slow” times of year that we open our intake to older animals.
Where do you get the older pets who are available for adoption at Petsmart Midland? We are a foster-based rescue who assists Midland Animal Services by providing their animals with foster homes while we work to adopt them to forever homes at Petsmart Midland.
What if I want to return a pet I adopted from Fix West Texas? Please bring your pet to Petsmart Midland Wednesday-Sunday between 10:30-12:30. We will meet with you to get your pet back into our system, take a few cute pics and have you do a Facebook live on our page to immediately get the word out that you need help getting your pet rehomed. Sometimes we may have a foster or adopter step up right away, other times it could take 3-4 days. Please be patient with us during this time as we work our hardest to assist you.
I have a pet under 6 months old. How do I start the surrender process? The first step to rehoming your pet is to have your pet spayed, vaccinated and microchipped, if they are over 12 weeks of age. Please make your appointment at www.fixwesttexas.org. If you need help with the cost, just let us know by emailing info@fixwesttexas.org so we can request donations to cover the amount you cannot afford.
The second step is to complete the Surrender Application. We will quickly approve your application and schedule your first drop-off at the Petsmart Midland Adoption Center. Your pet will stay with us from 12:30-5:30pm, as we work to showcase them on social media and to adopters who come into the store. If you are able to bring your pet regularly (at least on the weekends) we are usually able to find adopters for most pets within 2-3 weeks.
