Why is it important to provide affordrable and accessible services in West Texas?
Fix West Texas brought the first low-cost, high-quality spay, neuter and vaccination clinic to the Permian Basin in 2000. We did this to help reduce our local pet overpopulation problem which has resulted in many stray dogs roaming our streets while others are being incarcerated and later euthanized at local shelters. In fact, the Permian Basin accounts for about 10% of all pet euthanasia in the State of Texas, even though our per capita is less than 2%. Since 2000, we have spayed and neutered over 25,000 animals.
Not only do we have an overpopulation problem, we also have a preventable disease problem. For years, pets have died from preventable disease like parvo and distemper. Since 2000, we have provided vaccinations to over 40,000 animals which is reducing the amount of pet disease we are seeing in our community.
